The Mexican Caribbean has retained that tropical magic that evokes dreams of timeless days in the sun and passionate nights in the moonlight, while being in perfect harmony with nature. The Mexican state of Quintana Roo, also know to many cruisers as the Mexican Caribbean, is the only state of Mexico that faces the Caribbean Sea.

As such the destination is made up of many world famous destinations and resorts. The most popular are Cancun, one of the first to build massive resorts on a gorgeous stretch of beach. With the success of Cancun, Playa del Carmen and the Riviera Maya followed. Today, Cancun is the place to go for fun in the sun and great entertainment at night. Playa del Carmen and especially the Riviera Maya region remains a bit more sedate for those vacations where you want to get away from it all. The beaches in these regions are legendary for warm water, white sand and plenty of palm trees. Due to the warm climate, the infinity pool is a must and each resort tries to out do each other. One of the most magnificient can be found at the Secrets Cancun or the Hard Rock Hotel, which is new to the region.

On the other hand, a more upscale experience can be found at any of the Iberostar resort, especially the Iberostar Cancun with multiple pools and its bright and modern hotel tower, or any of the Iberostar, Secrets or Generations resorts in the RIviera Maya region.

The entire region is safe and well maintained by the Mexican Government. The food and water is very safe, and the resorts take many steps to protect guests with its huge variety of restaurants and food choices.

I stayed at the Hard Rock Hotel with its rock music playing throughout, as background, not overly loud, plus its amazing evening shows. The Michael Jackson show is not to be missed. The restaurants were awesome, particularly Ciao, the Italian restaurant with its exotic Italian cusine. And both Asian and Steakhouse restaurants also had great choices too. All food, entertainment and hotel accomoodations are included in your daily room charges. And a huge breakfast buffet awaits you every day with everything from pancakes, to eggs and even Tex Mex fare, should you wish to partake of the local cusine.

Great prices can be had for your destination wedding,golf, local cusine, and your nightlife. Playa del Carmen is a great place to spend the day shopping and touring. In Akumal, which is Mayan for place of the turtles, you will find hundreds of turtles sunning themselves or baby turtles just emerging from the sand. It is impressive. If you are into the Mayan ruins, then Cancun is for you with Tulum nearby, along with Uxmal, Ek Balam, Coba and the world famous Chichen-Hza perfectly preserved pyramid, considered one of the top 10 wonders of the modern world.

For as little as $399 per night, you too could be enjoying the life of the rich and famous in an all inclusive resort in the Western Caribbean. And like I said, I never felt safer in a resort area, nor did I worry about the food or water. In fact, I do plan to go back this winter to Iberostar Cancun. I just fell in love with the place. And oh yes, there are PLENTY of Starbucks there for those that crave their coffee plus you can pick up a souvenir Cancun, Playa or Cozumel mug to take home.
